November 13, 1958 – November 13, 2018
Passed away peacefully on her 60th birthday, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Cherished wife of 36 years to Randolph “Randy”. Loving mother of John (Joseph DeMott) and David (Celia Girgenti). Dear sister of Robert Gignac (the late Mary), Joan Spearing (Vincent), Jean Hunt (Daniel). Precious sister-in-law to Marie Pottle (Bruce), Kathleen Rivait (Roger) and Wendy Mitchell (Steve). Pre-deceased by her parents, Norman & Mae Gignac, and her brother, Raymond. Special daughter-in-law to the late Janet “Jenny” Groundwater. Treasured friend to Donna Fredericks. She will be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Anita was employed with the Ministry of Finance for 32 years. She was a valued and dedicated practitioner with Fung Loy Kok Taoist Tai Chi Institute of Windsor. Above all, Anita was a gentle soul, an angel here on Earth, who could not help but be loved by anyone who knew her.

Who We Are

We are Michael and Deb, vegans and hikers from southwestern Ontario, Canada, where we live with Ludwig the tortoise. We have completed 38 hiking expeditions to New Mexico, finding it hard to live without the skies, deserts and mountains of that unique place. Another favourite travel destination is London, UK (15 visits), where we enjoy making new friends, taking long walks in the city and outskirts, attending concerts in the city, and carrying out museum visits and pub pilgrimages. We have also explored the Valley of Mexico in some depth (3 visits), spent an entire summer in Madrid and Barcelona, spent two weeks in and around Copenhagen, Denmark, have been to Vienna twice, and visited great Mid-Western cities like Kansas City, Chicago, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Toronto and others many times. In the west, favourite cities include Albuquerque, NM, El Paso, TX, Tucson, AZ, Denver, CO, and Los Angeles, CA. Detroit, MI is our neighbouring big city, and we visit as often as we can. Lone Mountain Homestead is our attempt to share some of our adventures with relatives, friends and drop-in visitors. Michael is retired from teaching music. When not practicing piano or attending concerts in the Detroit/Windsor area, he enjoys driving a VW Golf, actively pursuing his astronomy hobby, and reading (as well as writing) fiction. He also loves to study maps, watch old films, and observe the night sky with his 12" reflector telescope. Deb is retired from teaching Grades 1-3 Language Arts, Music, and Drama. She is now an acclaimed stop-motion film maker, and her many short animated films have been featured in many international film festivals to date.
